BOOK BEARING HIS NAME
Nothing is known of Nehemiah except what is written in the book bearing his name. He makes his first appearance in chapter 1 at Shushan, the principal palace of the Persian King Artaxerxes I, where he served as the personal cupbearer to the king. One of his major responsibilities was to taste the king’s wine to make sure it wasn’t poisoned. He was also a trusted adviser and counselor.
